FAQs

Answers about Housing and Demographics Solutions from Polygon Research

Are there publications with housing and demographics data from Polygon Research?

Yes, there are several publications. For example, Fannie Mae used our insights in research about the diversity in the housing industry. NAHREP uses Polygon Research insights in their State of the Hispanic Homeownership Report (SHHR) and State of Hispanic Wealth Report (SHWR).

Do you blend the ACS, CPS, and ASEC data?

We do not blend these data sources. By subscribing to Polygon Research's Housing and Demographic solutions, you gain access to two apps - CensusVision and CPS Pivot.

What is the data source?

CensusVision is built on American Community Survey 1 Year public use micro area data (PUMS). CPS Pivot draws data from the Current Population Survey (CPS) and from the Annual Social and Economic Supplement (ASEC). We source the micro data from iPUMS. Depending on your subscription, you'll have different number of years.

Is there a difference between CensusVision and data published by the U.S. Census?

CensusVision is built on data published by the Census data. However, the data that can be accessed through the Census website interface is a combination of pre-summarized data in Census Tables and Census additional statistics available through Census' access to the entire survey data. In some instances this could create slight differences - for example, median age of specific demographics within a couple of months difference.

Do you calculate the margin of error?

We don't calculate the margin of error. Our apps are designed to drive instant analysis and data exploration which powers decision making. If you need to calculate the margin of error, send us an email to [email protected] for a custom quote.

Does CensusVision have insights about homeownership?

Yes, CensusVision has insights about homeownership rate. For example, you can instantly calculate the homeownership rate by race or ethnicity, by age, by veteran status, by geolocation, by property type, for movers, and much more.

How often is the data updated?

CPS is updated monthly. The ASEC is updated yearly - during the summer. The ACS data is updated once a year, typically in the fall-winter time frame.
