USDA Purchase Loan Growth by State

Which states are growing in USDA purchase loans?
Agency USDA purchase loans rose 8.0% in the first seven months of 2026, from 21,373 to 23,081, and a short list of states supplied most of the gain. Alabama (+21%), Tennessee (+19%), Texas (+18%) and Arkansas (+18%) added about 890 loans between them, more than half of the national net increase. Of the 12 largest markets, only Ohio fell (-7%). Wisconsin (-21%), Nebraska (-23%) and New Mexico (-22%) fell hardest among states with at least 50 loans.
A growth rate needs its base. North Dakota is up 125%, which is 20 loans to 45. Alabama's 21% is 241 more loans. For a lender, the useful comparison is its own USDA growth by state against the state market, a peer group or a specific competitor, because that shows whether it is gaining or losing share where volume is moving.
